About Us

Eastern Animal Hospital was founded in 1952. Dr Kaufman bought into the practice in 1990. The original building was a Baltimore City animal shelter and was quite small. In 1998, an opportunity developed directly across the street for a chance to move into a larger space. The owner, Dr Kaufman, together with a veterinary architect, designed and built a modern, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in 5,000 square feet. It’s beautiful!

Eastern Animal Hospital was voted “Best Veterinary Hospital”(2004) by City Paper’s Voter’s Choice. In 2005 Dr Kaufman received a community award for his service to the Southeastern District police. Dr Kaufman also received  the Baltimore County “Good Neighbor award” for his outstanding community service. Eastern was one of the original sponsors of the Canton Community “no leash” dog park and we sponsor their Dog Halloween costume contest yearly.  We also sponsor the S.P.C.A. “March for the Animals” fundraiser yearly.  We collect toys and clothing for the Southeast District Police Christmas drive. We also support their “Pies for Patrol” recognition program.  We work closely for several years with Maryland Animal Advocates on their trap, neuter, release program. Beginning in 2009 we began working with Arden’s Arc which also has a trap neuter release program for feral cats as well as a program that places stray cats in new homes.
